St. James Cathedral and Friends Join Together to Co-Sponsor a Refugee Family
Dear Friends,
It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the magnitude of the refugee crisis in the world right now. For over thirty years, RefugeeOne has assisted with the successful resettlement of tens of thousands of refugees in Chicago. During this current refugee crisis, most people are arriving from Syria, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Eritrea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burma, and Bhutan. They arrive with little or no personal belongings and heavy loads of grief, struggle, persecution and trauma. By co-sponsoring with RefugeeOne, we hope be able to meet those most vulnerable with a warm, welcoming spirit and help them get to know Chicago, navigate public transit, learn English, train for job interviews, and acclimate to American culture. We will stand with them and show them they are not alone. We can’t do this without the assistance of our supporters to raise the necessary funds. It takes, on average, around $8,500 to resettle a family of 5 in this area. We are confident that, with prayer and outreach, our family and friends will step up to the challenge and help us achieve our goal of $10,000 by the 26th of February. There is plenty of human suffering in our world today. We have been met with a calling in this very real moment to positively and concretely impact the lives of refugees on our local level, but also to influence the world and future generations, while living the mission of our church. Please join us. St. James Episcopal Cathedral Rachel H. Walt, rachel_h316@hotmail.com |
